Crispy, Cheesy, and Packed with Flavor

Ingredients

For the Dough (if making homemade):

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

OR: Use 1 pound of store-bought pizza dough for convenience.

For the Filling:

  • 1 ½ to 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 to 6 oz sliced pepperoni (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp grated parmesan (optional)
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted (for brushing)

Tools You’ll Need

  • Rolling pin
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing bowl
  • Pastry brush

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough (Skip if using store-bought)

  • In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  • Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix and knead until smooth (about 8 minutes).
  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

2. Preheat Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

3. Roll the Dough

  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a large rectangle (about 10″x16″).
  • Keep the thickness about ¼ inch.

4. Add Filling

  • Evenly sprinkle shredded mozzarella across the surface, leaving a ½-inch border.
  • Layer the pepperoni over the cheese.
  • Sprinkle Italian seasoning on top for extra flavor.

5. Roll and Seal

  • Carefully roll the dough lengthwise (like a jelly roll), keeping it tight.
  • Pinch the edges and ends to seal the log completely.

6. Transfer and Brush

  • Place the roll seam-side down on the baking sheet.
  • Beat the egg and brush it over the surface for a golden finish.
  • Optionally sprinkle grated parmesan on top.

7. Bake

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing.

Serving Suggestions

  • Slice into 1-inch pieces and serve warm.
  • Pair with marinara sauce or garlic dipping sauce.
  • Great for parties, game day, or even packed lunches.

Variations

  • Veggie Version: Add sautéed mushrooms, bell peppers, or spinach.
  • Spicy Kick: Use spicy pepperoni or add crushed red pepper flakes.
  • Cheese Lovers: Add provolone, cheddar, or a cheese blend.

Storage and Reheating

  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 5–10 minutes or in the microwave (though it may lose crispness).
  • Can be frozen before or after baking. Wrap tightly and freeze up to 2 months.
